WORD 1: EFFECTIVE FOLLOW UP AND RETAINERSHIP OF NEW CONVERTS

INTRODUCTION

ü  The whole essence of soul winning is in-gathering into the storehouse for preservation - Jn. 4:36/ 10:16

ü  Retainership of souls won is the principal factor in determining the growth of any church.

ü  For this reason, following up the new converts to the point of retaining them in the church through strategic integration processes becomes mandatory.

Our task must be: turning new converts into disciples and Members of the Church.

WHAT IS FOLLOW UP?

It is the act of “going again” to see how well the converts are faring spiritually until they are fully established -  Acts 15:36

DEMANDS OF EFFECTIVE FOLLOW-UP

v Passion for souls.

ü  The passion demonstrated towards winning souls is the same required for follow-up (Is. 49:15).

v Intercessory prayers.

ü  Just as prayer is vital in winning souls, so it is in retaining them (Is. 66:7,8/ Col. 4:12).

Paul prayed for retention of the souls that God gave to him (Gal. 4:19/ Eph. 3: 16-19).

The new converts intercessory prayer guidelines can be utilized for this purpose

v Practical Visitation. Every soul winner must accept responsibility for physical contact with the new convert just as no mother relates with her new baby in proxy (Is. 49:15).

v Show of Care. After every cell meeting, members should be encouraged to know the homes of new converts and also check up those who didn’t attend the cell fellowship that day (2Cor. 11:28).

v Engagement of Callers Squad. While some are on the go and some engage in intercession, a group shall be put in place to engage in making telephone calls and sending of SMS to new converts from previous outreaches, praying for them and reminding them of upcoming activities.

RETAINERSHIP STRATEGIES

ü  To further ensure the establishment and consolidation of new converts thereby enhancing continuous growth of the Church, a dynamic integration process must be put in place.

ü  While a child’s birth is momentary and within short period of time, child’s care is continuous. This is what makes integration process demanding.

We shall be engaging the following platforms for this purpose:

§ Believers’ Foundation Class (BFC) They should also be encouraged to attend the BFC so as to develop solid foundation for their faith (Ps. 11:3).

§ Winners Satellite Fellowship (WSF). New Converts must be introduced immediately to the nearest fellowship centres. (Acts 2:42/46-47)

§ Water Baptism New converts should be admonished to identify with the death and resurrection of Jesus through this exercise (Mk. 16:16/Rom. 6:3,4)

§ Service Unit Membership. This serves as platform for accessing their blessing through kingdom stewardship (Ex. 23:25,26/ Job 36:11).

§ Word of Faith Bible Institute (WOFBI) All new converts should be encouraged to attend the Basic Certificate Course of the bible school for acceleration of their spiritual growth and development (Is. 33:6).
